About:
As Far As Isolation Goes is a collaboration between live artist Tania El Khoury and musician and street artist Basel Zaraa. Built on their previous collaboration entitled As Far As My Fingertips Take Me in which El Khoury commissioned Zaraa to record a rap song inspired by the journey his sisters made from Damascus to Sweden. In As Far As Isolation Goes, Zaraa and Tania worked together to create another iteration of their previous piece focused on mental and physical health experiences of refugees in the United Kingdom. Zaraa created a song inspired by conversations with friends and colleagues who have recently claimed refuge in UK. As Far As Isolation Goes uses touch, sound, and interactivity to bring audience members in contact with those faced with inhumane detention centres and a mental health system that disregard their political and emotional contexts.
As Far As Isolation Goes is a conversation through a gallery wall between an audience member and a refugee. It uses touch, sound, and interactivity to bring audience members in contact with those faced with inhumane detention centres and a mental health system that disregard their political and emotional contexts.

The space varies. Please send your suggestions on available places and we will adapt the piece to the space. Even if public, the space needs to remain quiet and intimate enough. The props and material used in the space should all be black and white and laid out in a clean-looking display, as the coldness of gallery-like aesthetics acts in contrast with the content of the piece.Technical requirements:
- A large black wall with: a circular hole for arm on its left, an armrest on the other side for the audience to place their arm on, a small platform on each side for the chairs to be placed on, a short hook for the audience headphones, and a small hole for the headphones cable. (See plan below). It is preferable that there is only one side of the wall open and the other laid on the room’s actual walls. If this is impossible, then we will have the two sides open but might consider making the wall a little wider.
- Black paint to paint the wall. Normally it's easier to paint the wall before the get in so it's dry when it's set in place.
- A white chair for the audience.
- Thick white chalk.
- Two thick white markers.
- 2 black (or white) headphones with splitter and MP3 player (could be ipad/ipod). The MP3 need to be charged at all time or batteries should be provided. The files we send should be downloaded on it.
- 1 white table (rectangular and simple)
- An adjustable office black chair for Basel to sit on while painting
- 2 black simple and small rubbish bins (no cover)
- Plastic cups for painting
- White hand napkins
- Lighting on the wall (small projectors usually used in galleries): one for the wall/text, and another over the audience.
- Desk Lamp for Basel (preferably adjustable and either black or white)
- Drinking water and whatever light snacks available for Basel since he will be performing for 4 hours. He also needs a nearby toilet for his use but also to fill water for painting if needed.
- An audience guide at all time with Basel to let him know when the next audience is here. Preferably the same person for all shows.
